About

I am a writer and editor who believes in the power of words used for good.

I offer more than 17 years of professional and freelancing experience. By day, I’m a senior staff writer and content editor for an engineering association in Northern Virginia. I spent five years as an associate editor for another association focused on training and development. By night, I write and edit for a varied list of clients, including print and online publications, nonprofits, corporations, and individuals.

My skills are diverse: I’m a meticulous editor, but I’m also me1smallerthrilled by finding fascinating (true) stories to share with the world and just the right words to tell them. In addition, I’m passionate about helping other people improve their writing–either to further their professional careers or to tell their own life stories.

Background
I can’t remember a time when I didn’t write. I published rhyming poems in my elementary school newsletter, and I wrote a young adult novella about an overweight kid to purge my tween angst.

My new passion is creative or narrative nonfiction. The genre blends two elements I love: discovering and telling true stories and using literary devices to keep readers hooked.

Credentials
In 2011, I completed my MA in writing from Johns Hopkins University, focusing on creative nonfiction. I hold a BA in English with minors in creative writing and philosophy from Washington College, a small liberal arts college on the eastern shore of Maryland known for its writing program.
